YARBROUGH was born December 30, 1826, in Stewart County, Tenn. He is a son of George and Lucretia (Stokes) Yarbrough. The father was born in North Carolina. He came to Graves County in 1832, engaged in merchandising, a few years later in farming. This he continued till his death, which occurred in July, 1848, at the age of fifty-five. The mother was born in North Carolina; she died February 13, 1884, aged eighty-seven years. W.A. Yarbrough was brought up on his father's farm, and has always followed the business of farming. In August, 1878, he was elected sheriff and re-elected in 1880. He was married May 3, 1848, to Elizabeth Leech of Graves County. She died January 28, 1881, leaving three sons and two daughters. His second marriage was April 3, 1884, to Miss M.E. Purdy of this county. Mr. Yarbrough is a member of the Masonic fraternity.
