MOORMAN, Graves County, was born January 22, 1851, in Breckinridge County, Ky. He is a son of John and Jane V. (Owen) Moorman; these parents were natives of the same county and State. The father died May 19, 1863, aged forty-three years. The mother died in 1853, aged twenty-three years. H.J. Moorman was brought up on his father's farm, and after the latter's death he lived with his grandparents (Owen) till the age of eighteen; he then attended the Litchfield College at Litchfield, Grayson Co., Ky., one term, and then attended the Owensboro Baptist College, at Owensboro, Ky., one term, after which he read law with his uncle, W.T. Owen, of Owensboro, one year; he then was admitted to the bar. He opened a law office at Calhoun, Ky., where he practiced till the fall of 1875, when he removed to Charleston, Mo., where he practiced his profession till in February, 1878, when he, on account of sickness, moved to Mayfield, Graves County, Ky., and has since been engaged in the practice of his profession. Mr. Moorman was married May 23, 1877, to Miss Sallie Scoggins, of Mayfield; these parents have had four children, two of whom are living. Mr. and Mrs. Moorman are members of the Missionary Baptist Church.
