He is a son of John and Sallie (Cochran) McClain. Mr. McClain remained with his parents until attaining his majority, and at the age of twenty-three engaged in farming in Calloway County, Ky. He was married in 1861 to Eliza Jane King, daughter of Isaac and Martha (Jackson) King. Mr. McClain resided in Calloway County for a period of fourteen years, at the end of which time he disposed of his farm there and moved to Graves County, and purchased a flouring and saw-mill, which he has operated successfully ever since. Mr. and Mrs. McClain have a family of eight children, namely: Samantha E., Corilla F., J.W., Alta, Robert E., Oliver P., Lula and Maggie.
