Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. B. L. WADE. The subject of this sketch was born April 13, 1879, and is consequently only 22 years old. He is a son of the late Frank Wade and a grandson of Royal Davis Wade, who was in his generation known to most people of this county. Bertie Wade is one of a family of six children, two of whom are girls and four boys. Bertie being the third child. Bertie was born and reared on a farm. He received a good common education at Crittenden and Sherman. At the age of 21 he inherited a fine estate in the Sherman neighborhood, consisting of 170 acres of the finest land in the county. He was the confidential clerk of Collins Brothers, of Crittenden, for 18 months, and was highly thought of by his employers. Immediately after coming into his inheritance be began business as a stock trader and buyer of wool, and has successfully followed that calling since. His purchases of live stock frequently amount to several car loads a week. He ships to the Cincinnati markets, and there is no dealer in the county who has more friends among the stock men in the Queen City than he has. Last fall he was given the position of head bookkeeper in the Union Stock Yards during the absence of the regular man, and acquitted himself creditable while holding that position. He has turned his attention to the buying of wool this season, and has been appointed general agent for Davis & Co., of Louisville, for a large section of Northern Kentucky, including Grant, Boone and other counties. He and his agents have already purchased a very large amount of wool, to be delivered directly after the clip is made, while they are scouring the country every day seeking more. In religion Bertie is a Missionary Baptist, being a member of the Crittenden Baptist Church. In politics he is a Republican, but is conservative and not offensive in his views. He has a wide reputation in every part of Grant county for his square dealing in business. Wade = none http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/grant/wade.bl.txt
