Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. T. JEFF SPILLMAN. Rich in blue grass hills, endless rolling acres of wheat and grain, with the finest of live stock and a beautiful home and lovely family, T. J. Spillman is surrounded by everything in this life that is calculated to make a man happy and contented with his lot. He is a son of Thomas H. Spillman and Minerva (Stephens) Spillman, and was born in the county of Kenton, near Independence, August 26, 1821. He was the fourth child in a family of ten children, only five of whom are now living, and they are Thomas Jefferson Spillman, A. W. Spillman, Frank Spillman, Mrs. Virginia Cornelius and W. W. Spillman. "Jeff" was raised on his father's farm and attended the common schools of the neighborhood and the high school on Walnut Hills for a short time, obtaining a good education. He began life for himself at a very early age as a school teacher and taught for fifteen years. He then gave up teaching for farming. December 24, 1874, he was united in marriage to Miss Mattie A. Points, daughter of Hon. William Points, of near Sherman in Grant County. To this union seven children have been born, all of whom are living at home with their father. They are Earl H., Ester H., Alfred Tennyson, Angel T., Ermie P., Davis F. and Leolia A. Mr. Spillman is a Democrat in politics and a member of the Christian Church. His wife is a member of the Baptist Church. His farm of 520 acres lies one mile east of Sherman on the Sherman and Newton Turnpike Road, and is one of the most beautiful farms in the county. Mr. Spillman has christened it Lynnmour. He lives in an elegant home and farms on scientific principles. He takes and reads a great many farm papers and stock journals, and is a well informed, up-to-date citizen. Situated as he is there is little that he could ask for in this life that could contribute more to his happiness or well being. He cultivates on his farm tobacco, corn, wheat, rye and all the other cereals, and makes a specialty of fine cattle, hogs and sheep. His fruit orchards are the best in the county, and receive much attention at his hands. You have to see his home to appreciate and enjoy it.
