Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. E. K. LOOMIS. There is no better citizen of Grant county than E. K. Loomis. He is widely known by the citizens of the county and universally respected by all who know him. He was born March 16th, 1844, in this county, near Flingsville. His father was Martin Loomis, a Baptist preacher, who lived to a great age and died recently. His mother was Elizabeth Mann. There were thirteen children in his father's family, seven boys and six girls, of which he was the fifth. He was raised on a farm and received a good common school education, and began life for himself as a farmer, and has been in that occupation until now. He served ten months in the Union Army during the late unpleasantness. Mr. Loomis has been married twice. His first marriage was contracted with Miss Mary McCullom, a Pendleton County girl, and to this union four children were born: John F., now a prominent physician at Independence, Ky., Ethelbert, now dead, Dr. Charles Loomis, located in Indiana, and Roberta Francis, now Mrs. Armstrong, of Covington. His first wife died in July 1870, and he married again in April 1871, this time to Miss Ella Wilson, of Gardnersville. To this last marriage two children were born: E. E. Loomis, now Deputy Circuit Court Clerk, and A. E. Loomis. In politics Mr. Loomis has always been a Democrat of the best type. He never was a candidate for office in his life, and says that he never expects to be. He is a member of the Christian Church at Mount Olivett, and a deacon. He owns a fine farm of land near Eagle Creek, all in high state of cultivation, and has plenty of this world's goods. He is an elegant gentleman and a model citizen.
