DR. C. D. LEWIS, a native of Windsor County, Vt., was born June 6, 1817,
and is the second in a family of four children born to Enos and Keturah
(Denison) Lewis.  Enos Lewis was a son of Joseph Lewis, a native of
Connecticut, who was a physician and surgeon in the Revolutionary war.
Enos was also a physician and surgeon in the war of 1812, and was a very
prominent man, though for many years a cripple from paralysis, he died in
Vermont, September 14, 1823.  Mrs. Keturah Lewis was a daughter of Beebe
and Hannah (Chessbro) Denison.  Beebe Denison was a son of Daniel Denison.
The Denisons go back to George, who was born in 1618, was a soldier under
Cromwell, and won distinction in the army.  The Doctor has a biographical
history of the family, giving accurately names, births and deaths of every
member of the family down to the present time, compiled by John Denison
Baldwin and William Clift, of Stonington, Conn.  Dr. C. D. Lewis took the
degrees of A.B. and A.M. at the Norwich University, and also graduated in
medicine at Dartmouth College, N. H., in 1841-42.  He began the practice
of his profession at Norwich, Vt., moved to Kenton County, Ky., in 1842,
and in 1843 he located at Dry Ridge where he now lives, and is a leading
physician and surgeon.  He was one of the most ardent supporters of the
Government during the war.  In 1847 he married Miss Caroline M. Cannon,
daughter of Trustin and Elenor (Hoggins) Cannon, of Bourbon County, Ky.
Mrs. Lewis was born in 1825.  To this union six children have been born,
viz: Charles C., born April 17, 1852; Leo E., born January 2, 1851;
W. W. H., born May 16, 1855; William K., born July 28, 1862, and two who
died in infancy.  Dr. and Mrs. Lewis are members of the Presbyterian
Church.  Politically Dr. Lewis is a Republician.
