FRANKS was born in Grant County, Ky., July 29, 1857, and is the third of a family of five born to V. and George Ann (Abernathy) Franks. V. Franks was born in Grant County, Ky., September 12, 1824. He has always been engaged in agriculture pursuits, and has been magistrate; he is a son of William Franks. Our subject's mother, Mrs. George Ann Franks, was born January 30, 1828, in Virginia, a daughter of R. L. and Elizabeth (Chrisman) Abernathy. D. A. Franks was reared on a farm in Grant County, and educated at the common schools. He worked on the farm until 1879, then commenced to teach school, and taught until 1882. Then he farmed until 1885, when he opened a general store at Mt. Zion, Grant Co., Ky., and has been actively engaged in that capacity ever since. He is doing a fine business in Mount Zion.
