Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. WILLARD GLIDDEN CRAM, SR., is a New Yorker by birth, having first come into this world in that state August 24, 1819. His parents were old Puritans and very strict in their beliefs and habits. His father migrated to Kentucky when Mr. Cram was only five years old and settled in Kenton County. There the young man Willard grew to manhood's estate. He was reared on his father's farm and was inured to the hardships and the labors of pioneer farming at that early day. His father died when Mr. Cram was very small and left six helpless children to the care of his mother. Mr. Cram helped to provide for and take care of the family until his maturity, when he began farming for himself. In 1846, on November 10th, he was united in marriage to Maria McDonald, and for more than fifty years he and his good wife have fought the battle of life together. To them eleven children have been born, all of whom are now living. The children are all married excepting George and all are doing well. In politics Mr. Cram is a free silver Democrat and is always in line for his party and his friends. During the war, while he did not enlist in the army of the Confederates states, he was a southern sympathizer, and he was arrested and placed in confinement at Camp Chase. Mr. Cram and his wife have each been members of the Baptist Church for many years and are always willing to do all they can to forward the good work. While a rich man, Mr. Cram is exceedingly liberal and broad minded. Mr. Cram has always had a warm spot in his heart for young men and started several good boys in business, sent them to school and gave them a chance in life. He cast his first vote for Martin Van Buren in 1841 for President, and has never missed voting for the Democratic ticket from top to bottom since. Mr. Cram moved to Grant County on the first day of December, 1880. His youngest child is thirty years old, and he and his good wife live in peace and quiet at the elegant country home north of Williamstown, on the Covington and Lexington Turnpike.
