Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky., May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. ERASTUS B. CLARK is the youngest son and youngest child of the late Bryan P. and Mary (Webb) Clark, and was born in the county of Grant, in the neighborhood of Stewartsville, September 16, 1872. He was educated in the common schools at Stewartsville and in Williamstown, and has a first- class common school education. He worked for a number of years as a handler of tobacco for his brother, W. T. Clark, and is an excellent judge of the weed. In 1895 he was elected Marshal of Williamstown, and he is now serving his second term in that office. In politics he is a Democrat, and is a most faithful worker in the party. Last year he was a candidate for the office of Sheriff but withdrew from the race a few weeks before the election. He is a devoted worker in secret orders, being a member of the Odd Fellows, both subordinate and Encampment, a member of the Knights of Pythias, subordinate and Uniform Rank, a member of the Improved Order of Red Men, and a member of the Masonic Lodge, and is a regular attendant at all these lodges. He was married to Miss Bertha Simpson, the beautiful daughter of Rev. J. W. Simpson, December 1, 1898, and they are a most happily mated couple. Ras, as he is familiarly called, has made a splendid official, and has handled the tough element which occasionally pays Williamstown a visit most successfully.
