CAVANACH is one of the oldest and most highly respected men of Williamstown. He was born in Wicklowe, Ireland in 1832, and at the age of eighteen years emigrated to America, landing originally at New Orleans. In 1850 he located in Grant county, where he learned the carpenters trade, which calling he followed until 1880, when he turned his attention to financial matters. He helped organize the Grant County Deposit bank in 1882, and was its president for many years. He was a member of the Catholic Church, and at the time of his death, April 9, 1900, was worth $50,000.
