Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. CHAPMAN CASON. Near the little village of Sherman is a tract of 700 acres of the best land in the county of Grant. Once not long ago it belonged to one of Grant county's pioneer settlers, Louis Cason. He is dead and buried now and his son, Chapman Cason, does the honors where he once lived and reigned "the lord of all he surveyed." It is an old tradition that he was offered, even before land became high, the sum of $70,000.00 for his tract of land but refused to take it. He lived and died a true and model Kentucky citizen and Chapman Cason is the progeny of this character. "Chap" was born and raised on the farm and lives on the farm to this day and is one of the best farmers in this state. He cultivates tobacco, corn, wheat and rye and usually raises a little more per acre than any of his neighbors. He is kindly and genial, a good friend and a good neighbor, and what more could any man be in this life? One of these days he will own all of the broad acres once owned by his father and will be one of the rich men of the county. He is a Democrat in politics who asks no questions, but votes the ticket and does all he can in his humble way to assist the party.
