Souvenir Edition, The Williamstown Courier, Williamstown, Ky, May 30, 1901, reprinted September 19, 1981 by the Grant County KY Historical Society. HORATIO ARNOLD. Of all they many Democratic candidates for county office who will be voted for next November, none have more friends, politically or personally, than H. A. Arnold, of Downingsville. He is a product of Gallatin County, a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat, a splendid friend, a good father and a kind and indulgent husband. He made the race for jailer last fall, being a candidate for the office before the December primary, and received a splendid plurality of the votes cast. He is accordingly the nominee of the part and is a sure winner in November. "Rash" as he is familiarly called, is a poor man, and a farmer, owning about eighty acres of hill land near the Grant and Owen line, where he lives. He was a candidate for the office of jailer some four years ago but was defeated. He has a wife and four children. His wife was a Miss Edwards, and came from near Napoleon, Gallatin County. She is a most estimable Christian lady, a member of the Baptist Church and a good wife and mother. The children's names are James W., Arthur, Ada and Marta. James, the eldest, is a teacher in the public schools, and is making quite a reputation for himself as a teacher. Arthur is a lad of eighteen or nineteen years, and is a splendid young man, who has chosen farming for a vocation. Ada, the eldest girl, is sweet sixteen and fair as a lily, and is just blossoming into a glorious womanhood, while Marta, the baby, is only seven, but is as sweet and winsome a little miss as can be found in the borders of a dozen counties. All the children have been given good common school educations, and all are exceedingly bright. Arnold Edwards = Gallatin-KY http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/grant/arnold.h.txt
