Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887 Garrard Co. JAMES H. BROWN, born August 6, 1861, in Lancaster, Ky., is a son of A.B. and Zerelda (Jennings) Brown. A.B. Brown was born in Garrard County in 1832, and is a son of A.J. Brown, who married Nancy McKenzie. A.J. Brown was postmaster of Lancaster during President s Polk's and Pierce's administrations and was also a major of militia. He was a Democrat and was a delegate to the first Democratic convention held in Garrard County. He was a son of Abe J. Brown, a native of Virginia, who married Bettie Dolling and came to Garrard County about 1791, and entered over 1,000 acres of land about a mile east of Lancaster. Mrs. Zerelda Brown is a daughter of Samuel and Rosana (McDonald) Jennings, and a native of Garrard County. James H. Brown was reared on a farm, and after a preliminary education in the common schools, began the study of law with Denny & Tomlinson. In February, 1880, he was admitted to the bar of Lancaster, and in August, 1882, was elected county attorney and re-elected in 1886 as a Democrat, and is probably the youngest man ever elected to the office, and only one ever re-elected to that office in Garrard, Brown Jennings McKenzie Polk Pierce Dolling McDonald Denny Tomlinson = VA http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/garrard/brown.jh.txt
