Used by permission. [Gallatin] ANDREW MARTIN SMITH, Th.D.: Rev. A. M. Smith was born in the city of Louisville, Kentucky, and is the son of William Garrett and Elizabeth Smith. We failed to secure the date of his birth. He professed faith in Christ while a youth and united with the Southgate Baptist Church (now Calvary), Louisville, Kentucky, and was baptized by Rev. George Clark, the pastor. Our subject attended the Louisville public schools, Manual Training High School, Georgetown Academy, Georgetown College, where he received the A.B. Degree, and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, where he received the Th.B, [sic] Th.M., and Th.D. Degrees. For a time he followed the printer's trade and also that of proof reading. He was licensed to preach by the 22nd and Walnut Street Church, Louisville, Kentucky, and by this Church was ordained on June 23, 1915. Revs. J. G. Bow, T. E. Smith, and Beaty were on the ordaining council. He was licensed to preach under Dr. M. E. Dodd, now of Shreveport, Louisiana. He has been pastor of the following Churches: Red House, Clover Bottom, and Bedford, Kentucky; North Madison and Wirt, Indiana; Paynesville, Kentucky; Westwood, Cincinnati, Ohio; Fort Mitchell, Covington, Kentucky; Vine Run, Kentucky; First Baptist, Bay, Arkansas; Eaton Memorial, Owensboro, Kentucky; and First Baptist, Warsaw, Kentucky, since January, 1941. The Eaton Memorial pastorate was from 1937 to 1940. For some time he served as Professor of Bible in Judson College, Marion, Alabama. He also served as head of the Department of Bible and Religious Education, Jonesboro Baptist College, Jonesboro, Arkansas, in 1931-1933. He served as Principal of the High School at Ewing, Kentucky, in 1918-1919. He married Miss Mary Layng Penn, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. N. F. Penn, on December 24, 1919. They have two sons. Mrs. Smith is an accomplished musician having received the Bachelor of Music Degree from the Cincinnati College of Music and is also a Fellow of the American Guild Organists. She has served as Director of Fine Arts Department, Jonesboro Baptist College, Jonesboro, Arkansas; as Teacher of Piano and Organ, Judson College, Marion, Alabama; and as teacher of Piano, W. M. U. Training School, Louisville, Kentucky. Their labors have been well received in the Churches where Brother Smith has served.
