Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Gallatin Co. ADDISON GIBSON, a farmer and stock grower, is a native of Gallatin County, Ky., and was born April 12, 1817. His father, David Gibson, a native of Spottsylvania County, Va., was born about 1781, and was a farmer by occupation. He settled in Gallatin County in 1801, near the Ohio River, where he lived until his death, which occurred in 1850. He was magistrate and sheriff of Gallatin County for many years, and also served as representative and senator. He married Mary Morrow, of Clark County, and had four children, the subject of this sketch being the youngest child. William Gibson, the paternal grandfather of Addison, was a native of Virginia, and settled in an early day near Lexington, Fayette County, where he died. Addison Gibson was educated in the common schools of Gallatin County, has always followed farming, and now owns 225 acres. He married Mary Steele, of Gallatin County, and five children blessed their union, viz: George H. (deceased), Martha E., Emily, Dorsie and Mary M., the latter two also deceased. Mrs. Gibson died in 1850, a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Gibson then married Harriet Smith, of Sangamon County, Ill., who died in 1868, leaving five sons: John, David (deceased), Speed S., Thomas E. and Addison. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Gibson next married Mary J. (Penny) Engleston of England, and five children have blessed their union, viz: Emma, Harriet, Walter, Herronden and Virgil. Politically Mr. Gibson is a Democrat. He represented Gallatin and Grant Counties in the Legislature in 1873-74, and is a member of the Presbyterian Church, while his wife is a member of the Christian Church.
