Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Gallatin Co. PROF. PASCHAL HICKMAN DUNCAN, of Glencoe, a native of Gallatin County, Ky., was born November 13, 1845. His father, Benjamin Duncan, a native of Harrison County, was born in 1807, and was a well-to-do farmer; he settled on a farm in Gallatin County in 1818, near Warsaw, Ky., where he lived until his death, which occurred April 27, 1887. He was a member of the Baptist Church for many years, but at the time of his death was a prominent member of the Christian Church. He took an active part in all local political matters. He married Miss M. Ellis, who was born near Richmond, Henrico Co., Va., and was a daughter of James Adams Ellis, also a native of Henrico County, Va. Six sons and four daughters were born to their union, of whom the subject of this sketch is the ninth child. James Duncan, the paternal grandfather of P. H. Duncan, a native of Harrison County, Ky., and a farmer by occupation, removed to a farm near Danville, Vermillion Co., Ill., where he died. The maternal grandfather of our subject, a native of Virginia, came to Kentucky early in the present century, and settled near Warsaw, Gallatin County, where he died; he took an active part in the war of 1812. Prof. Paschal Hickman Duncan lived on the farm until his nineteenth year, when he entered college, remaining in school till [sic] he graduated. He taught for several years. In 1880 he was appointed State Sunday-school evangelist, by the Kentucky Christian Sunday-school Association, in which capacity he served for seven years, at the expiration of which time he entered the ministry. July 25, 1883, he married Sallie Orr, of Columbia, Adair Co., Ky., a graduate of Ghent College, Ghent, Ky., and a daughter of Vernon and Mary C. (Botts) Orr. Mrs. Duncan died October 3, 1887, at Corinth, Ky. Politically Mr. Duncan is a Democrat; he represented Gallatin County in the Legislature in 1875-76. He is a Royal Arch Mason of Tadmor Lodge, No. 138, at Warsaw, Ky., and is also a member of the Christian Church. He owns property in Wichita, Kas.
