Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Gallatin Co. WILLIAM C. BROWN, a native of Gallatin County, Ky., was born September 19, 1808. Hie father, Richard Brown, a native of Virginia, immigrated to Gallatin County, and served in the war of 1812 under Col. Richard Johnston, taking part in the battles of Tippecanoe, Ft. Meigs, Thames and others. He married Rachel Crisenberry, daughter of William Crisenberry, who bore him four sons and three daughters, the subject of this sketch being the eldest. His paternal grandfather, a native of Virginia, served in the Revolution, and died at the age of one hundred and fifteen years. William C. Brown was reared a farmer, and now owns 200 acres. In 1830 he married Nancy Castleman, a native of Fayette County, and four sons and three daughters have blessed their union: John R., Augustus, Lewis, William, Mary, Fannie and Nannie. Mrs. Brown died in 1852, and Mr. Brown married Miss Henrietta Harwood. Mr. Brown is a Democrat, he was magistrate twelve years and was county judge four years during the war. He is a member of the Little Hope Baptist Church, and his wife is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
