Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. GEORGE A. ROBERTSON, a native of Mercer County, was born near Harrodsburg December 6, 1807, and is a son of James and Nancy (Davidson) Robertson. The father was born in an Indian fort in 1781, and the mother in Lincoln County in 1785, and both were of Scotch-Irish descent. George A. Robertson was reared on the home farm in Lincoln County, and when but six years of age beat the drum in gathering volunteers for the war of 1812, at Lancaster, Ky. When twenty years of age he moved to Frankfort and was clerk under his uncle, State Treasurer James Davidson, and remained two years; wrote afterward in the State Auditor's office, and was clerk of the land office; was elected the first State librarian in 1821-33, and served twenty-two years. He next engaged in mercantile business in about 1836 and continued for twenty years. He was appointed marshal of the court of appeals in 1868, and is the present incumbent. He was married, April 21, 1831, to Miss Louisa McCurdy, daughter of Dr. A. F. McCurdy, of Frankfort. She died October 16, 1834, and November 19, 1839, he married Miss Julia Jameson, of Lancaster. He has no children living. He joined the Presbyterian Church in 1828, and is an elder.
