Lawyers and Lawmakers of Kentucky, by H. Levin, editor, 1897. Published by Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago. Reprinted by Southern Historical Press. p. 126. Franklin County. JOHN B. LINDSEY was born in Frankfort, on the 4th of July, 1837, and his life is in contradistinction to the spirit of the proverb that a prophet is never without honor save in his own country, for in the city of his birth he has risen to an eminent position at the Frankfort bar. He is now associated in business with his brother, General D. W. Lindsey, with whom he was a classmate in a private school conducted by B. B. Sayre, and also the Kentucky Military Institute. His health becoming impaired he removed to Texas in 1856, and in the Lone Star state engaged in farming, seeking in this outdoor occupation the health which had failed under his rigorous mental work. After some years he returned to the state of his nativity, where he also followed farming until 1863, after which he engaged in general business until 1874. In that year he was admitted to practice, having previously studied law under the direction of his father, the Hon. T. N. Lindsey, one of the distinguished members of the bar. He became associated with his brother, General D. W. Lindsey, a connection that has since continued until the firm has gained a reputation that places it among the foremost legal partnerships in the state. Mr. Lindsey is making a specialty of chancery cases. He has the reputation of being the most painstaking and diligent lawyer at the bar in the preparation of his papers and his cases. He is a careful and safe counselor, is thoroughly informed concerning all authorities, and in pleading his cause his eloquence, logic and undisputable argument are seldom surpassed. Mr. Lindsey was married in 1860 to Miss Helen Talbot, daughter of William G. Talbot, a large landowner of Bourbon county, Kentucky. They have eight children: William J., Dudley, John B., Maria, Isabelle, Cordelia, Lillian and Genevieve. The family attend the Protestant Episcopal church.
