Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. ALEXANDER JULIAN is a native of Franklin County, Ky., and was born in the same house in which he now resides, at sixty-five years of age. He is the youngest of ten children of Charles and Jennie (Moore) Julian, who were born near Fredericksburg, Va. His father represented Stafford County, Va., in the Legislature in 1811, but came to Woodford County, Ky., in 1812. He was a graduate of Edinburgh (Scotland) University for the medical profession. He then went to France to take an extra course, but the Revolution broke out and he returned to Edinburgh. Dr. John Julian, grandfather of Alexander, was a colonel and surgeon in the Revolutionary war. Charles Julian died in June, 1837. He was one of the directors of the Commonwealth Bank and Bank of Kentucky, and was a great friend of Sir Robert Alexander, of Woodford County (deceased). Alexander Julian was was reared on the farm, read law, and entered Danville College in 1837, continuing until 1840, when his health failed and he afterward entered the Montrose Law School, and graduated under Judge Monroe, but never practiced. He has never held any office but that of president of the high school of Frankfort. He was married to Miss Bettie C. Laughlin February 10, 1853; she died in 1877, the mother of seven children: Charles H., Lucy W., Jennie, William A., Henry S., Tarleton and Clarence. Mr. Julian owns between 800 and 900 acres of land.
