Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. DR. EDGAR E. HUME is a native of Trimble County, Ky. He was born March 24, 1844, and is the son of Louis and Myra (McGee) Hume, who were born in Fauquier County, Va., and in Kentucky, respectively. His father's grand- father was a native of Scotland, and his mother of the North of Ireland. Dr. Hume, at two years of age, went to Spencer County, where he remained until he was thirteen, and then went with his parents to Louisville, where he acquired his education in the high schools. At the age of twenty he began to read medicine. In 1868 he entered the University of Louisville, and graduated in 1869. He next took a course in the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New York, and later graduated from Bellevue and the medical department of the University of New York. He next spent eighteen months in the Crittenden (military) hospital in Louisville. Previously, however, in 1869, he went to Camden, Anderson County, remained there for one year in the practice of medicine. He came to Frankfort in 1880. He married, in December, 1877, Miss Mary E. South, of Frankfort, a daughter of Samuel South. The Doctor is an honorary member of the Shelby Medical Association, and is a Mason. He represented Anderson County in the Legislature in 1876.
