Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. G. W. COHARN was born in Franklin County February 7, 1840, and is the fifth son of Hugh and Hannah (Troute) Coharn. The father was born in Virginia, came to Kentucky in an early day and settled in Franklin County. G. W. Coharn was raised in Franklin County, and educated at the common schools. He is a blacksmith by trade, which he learned under John Warry at Stittenville, Franklin County, and at which he worked about twenty years. He then operated a general store at Woodlake, Franklin County, and has been engaged in merchandising ever since. In June, 1882, he was appointed postmaster at Woodlake. He married, November 13, 1864, Lizzie (Haynes) of Franklin County, daughter of John and Lucinda (Burchfield) Haynes.
