Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. J. H. BURDIN, born in Paris, Ky., May 22, 1851, is the eldest son of L. E. and H. R. (Gaines) Burdin. L. E. Burdin was born in Bourbon County, in January 1829, was a blacksmith all his life and was a son of Thomas Burdin, who was born in Virginia. J. H. Burdin was reared in Bourbon County, and at an early age learned the blacksmith's trade under his father. He moved to Lexington, Ky., in 1869, and worked in the omnibus and stage shop until 1872. He then moved to Franklin County, where he had the Government contract for the mail line from Frankfort to Paris, Ky., for thirteen months, but has worked at his trade ever since. June 5, 1872, he married Miss Sallie N. Murphy, of Clifton, Green Co., Ohio, daughter of Frances and Anna L. (Shinkle) Murphy, natives of Philadelphia. Nine children have been born to him, five of whom are living: Horace C., Erle C., Louis E., Frances M. and Victor H. Mr. Burdin is a member of the Baptist Church, his wife of the Christian Church.
