Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. GEN. SCOTT BROWN is a native of Franklin County, Ky. He was educated at Centre College, Danville, Ky.; was appointed adjutant-general in 1859, and resigned in 1862; was president of the agricultural fair at Frankfort for six years, and was elected to the Senate in 1873, and served one term of four years. Gen. Brown, preferring the quiet and charm of country life, has devoted himself to farming in his native county. He is quite a stock trader, and at one time traded largely in horses and mules South. He is the second son of Scott and Lucy (Munday) Brown, both natives of Virginia, and a grandson of Berriman Brown, who was born in Virginia, and was a Revolutionary Soldier. Gen. Brown is a man of mark in his community, of commanding figure and attractive appearance, of refined personal habits and inflexible integrity, and occupies a prominent position in the history of the State. Gen. Browns owns 1,000 acres of land. He is now, and has been for a number of years, director of the Farmers' Bank in Frankfort. He is still unmarried.
