Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. JOSEPH I. BELT was born in Prince George's County, Md., March 21, 1799, and is the youngest son of Joseph and Rachel (Brashear) Belt. The father was born in Maryland; served in the Revolutionary war; came with his parents to Kentucky about 1813; settled in Scott County, and died at the age of ninety-nine years. Joseph I. Belt acted as a clerk six years in a store, and was engaged successfully in merchandising in Frankfort for thirty years. He married Sarah A. Taylor of Frankfort, November 30, 1830, and four children blessed their union, one living, Annie M., who married James M. Wood, of Lexington, Ky., and had five children: Joseph B., John Scott, Annie B., Huston D. and Stuart R. Joseph Belt Wood married Martha B. Morton of Lexington and had two children: James Morton and Frank Ballard. J. Scott Wood graduated at Bellevue Medical College in March, 1886, and is now practicing in Brooklyn Hospital. Mrs. Sarah A. Belt died November 10, 1856, a member of the Presbyterian Church. Her husband is a member of the Christian Church. Mr. Belt is comfortably situated on his farm of 507 acres and also owns 1,040 acres in Missouri.
