Fleming County

RAWLEIGH K. HART, of Fleming County, Ky., was born in 1856, and is the
eldest of three children born to Theodore and Amanda R. (Kendall) Hart.
Theodore Hart was a son of Elijah and Matilda (Evans) Hart, the former a
native of Jersey City, N.J.  Theodore Hart was a farmer by occupation, and
lived in Poplar Plains, Fleming County, where he served two terms as
sheriff; he died September 17, 1885, a member of the Christian Church.  He
was a near relative of Joel Hart, the celebrated sculptor.  Mrs. Amanda Hart
is a daughter of Rawleigh Kendall, of Fleming County, but a native of
Virginia; she was born July 28, 1827, and is a member of the Christian
Church.  Rawleigh K. Hart was reared on the farm, the pursuits of which he
has always followed.  He was educated in Lexington, Ky., and Lebanon, O.  He
was sheriff of his county at one time, and was an active member of the
Legislature in 1883-84, serving with credit to his State and county.  It was
he who introduced the bill which had for its purpose the transferring of the
remains of Joel Hart from Florence, Italy, where he died, to Frankfort, Ky.,
and Mr. Hart was one of the committee to discharge that important work.  He
married Miss Hattie Frazee, a daughter of Joseph Frazee, of Maysville, Ky.
They are the parents of one child, John.  Mr. Hart owns 750 acres of land
near Poplar Plains, and with his wife is a member of the Christian Church.
