Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, 1887 Fleming County GILBAR A. CASSIDY was born in Fleming County, Ky., October 6, 1849. He is a son of Samuel E. Cassidy, who was born at the same place, and was a son of Michael Cassidy, who came from Ireland to Maryland, enlisted under Washington and served through the Revolutionary war. After peace was declared, Michael came to the newly erected county of Mason, established Cassidy Station, represented the county in the State Legislature, and when Fleming was taken off, represented that county nine terms. Samuel E. Cassidy was born in 1818, was deputy county clerk under the old Constitution for eight years, and died in 1883. Gilbar A. Cassidy read law with Ex-Judge James W. Anderson, was admitted to practice in 1872, and was for four years in partnership with J.P. McCartney and two years with Judge Anderson. In 1878 he married Miss Mamie S. Sharp, a native of Cynthians, Ky. Two children have blessed this union, Curtiss Sharp and Octavia.
