HISTORY OF FAYETTE COUNTY KENTUCKY, by Robert Peter, ed. by William H. Perrin, O. L. Baskin Co., Chicago, 1882. Reprinted by Southern Historical Press, Easley, SC, 1979. Page 765. ISAAC S. MILLER, Sr., farmer, P. O. Lexington, is the grandson of James Miller, who came to America from Germany, and of his wife, a French lady named Dubois. These settled at the forks of the Shenandoah River in Virginia, and there lived and died. Their son Joseph, the father of our subject, learned the blacksmith's trade and followed it steadily till he married Susannah Rector, also a native of Virginia. In 1794, he and his brother George came into Kentucky on a prospecting tour, and, like all who came to spy out the land, they were highly pleased with it. George remained, and Joseph, after a brief visit to Virginia, to make preparations for the change, returned the following year and took up his permanent abode in Clark County, where he died in 1832, upon the farm he first located, being at the time of his decease at the age of sixty-two years. His son, Isaac S., born in 1813, was brought up on the farm, and remaind in Clark County till after his marriage, which event occurred in 1840. He removed to Sumner County, Tenn., in 1848, and there remained some years, then changed his abode to Mercer County, Ky., for eight years, and in the fall of 1864 he came to Fayette County, making a purchase of the old Hunt farm. His wife is Eudosia Rupard, born in Clark County, and descended from ancestors who came from North Carolina, and took part in the common dangers and difficulties of the early settlers on the Indian border. Mr. and Mrs. Miller have been blessed with a family of seven children, all of whom are living. They comprise three sons Joseph W., Isaac S., Jr., and George W., and four daughters: Ann M., wife of J. W. Vanarsdall; Susan, wife of E. C. Hedge; Mattie H., wife of John Berry; and Katie, wife of W. L. Berry.
