JAMES M. WINSTON was born in Daviess County, Ky., March 31, 1842, and 
with the exception of the years 1866-'67 spent in Henderson County, has 
always resided here.  His occupation has always been farming.  He 
enlisted in 1866 in the Third Kentucky Cavalry, U. S. A., and served two 
years; was in the battle of Shiloh and Pittsburg Landing, and many 
skirmishes; was mustered out at Louisville, Ky.  He was married Jan. 17, 
1864, to Sarah Ann Smith, a native of Daviess County, born Aug. 20, 
1844.  They have one son--James S., born Aug. 20, 1875.
