"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, pp. 478-479. Used by permission. [Daviess] DEACON LUTHER ELBERT VANOVER: This brother beloved was born near Panther, Daviess County, Kentucky, on January 21, 1881, and is the son of J. P. and Luvenia Short Vanover. He was reared on a farm and attended the common schools at hand. He later studied at the Utica Normal school. After obtaining a certificate he taught school for four years in Daviess County. In the year 1906 he entered the real estate business for himself. He has remained in this business to the present time. Our brother was converted at the age of fourteen and was baptized into the fellowship of the Brushy Fork Church by Elder Daniel E. Yeiser. He has served for several years as a deacon and Sunday School teacher in the Third Baptist Church in Owensboro. Since 1928 he has served as a messenger from this Church to each annual session of the Association and has also served during this time as the representative of the Church on the Executive Mission Board of the Association. At the annual session of the Association in 1942 he was elected to the office of Assistant Moderator. Mr. Vanover was married to Miss Vernie Mohon on December 26, 1905. One son, Aubrey, blessed this union. Mrs. Vanover died in 1915 and on May 17, 1920, Mr. Vanover was united in marriage to Miss Laura Henderson. One daughter, Helen Marie, blessed this union. L. E. Vanover is highly respected by all who know him as a Christian gentleman of the highest type. He has made a lasting contribution to the life of his Church and to the Daviess-McLean Baptist Association. According to the usual custom he will probably be the next layman to be elected to the Moderator's Chair of the Association.
