"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, Pp. 346. Used by permission. [Daviess] THOMAS JEFFERSON RATCLIFF: This outstanding preacher was born in Daviess County, September 28, 1862. After attending the common schools in this county he entered Georgetown college. He also attended for a time Bethel College in Russellville. His remaining ministerial education was secured at the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville. Brother Ratcliff was licensed to preach by Macedonia Church in April, 1886. The next year he was ordained by Pleasant Hill Church. As to the location of this church we are completely at a loss. He served this church as pastor for two years. After serving for one year at Jonesboro, Illinois. He went to St. Stephens, S. C., where he labored for two and one-half years. About the year 1894 he returned to Kentucky as pastor of the church at Lewisport, in Kentucky, and at Grandview, in Indiana. After a period of time at these churches he came back to this Association where he served the following churches from 1894 to 1909: Calhoun, Richland, and Livermore in McLean County; Brushy Fork, Glenville, Whitesville, South Hampton, Pleasant Ridge, Karn's Grove, and Macedonia in Daviess County. In this period he served Central City and Greenville churches in Muhlenberg County and some others in Hancock County. He had previously served Bethel, Green River, and Mt. Liberty churches before he went to Illinois. After the year 1909 we lose trace of our brother until we find him as pastor at Adairville in 1914. After serving the church there he became pastor at Franklin. From the year 1926 to 1933 he served as pastor at Nortonville. After that we find no other accessible record of him. From one source we have learned that he lived in Nashville, Tenn., from 1916 until his death, near the year 1935. As to his parents, his family life, and many particulars of his ministry, we will have to wait until such information can be found.
