JAMES BERRY LEAVELL, Th.M., Th.D.:  J. B Leavell is the son of the 
late Dr. J. B. Leavell, Sr., outstanding Baptist minister, and Lula 
Bryan Leavell.  His maternal grandfather is the venerable Dr. R. T. 
Bryan, long-time Southern Baptist Missionary to China.  He was born 
in McComb, Mississippi, on March 6, 1909.  He was converted at the 
age of seven and was baptized into the fellowship of the First 
Baptist Church of Oxford, Mississippi, by his father.
	He is a graduate of Houston High School, Houston, Texas; Baylor 
University, where he received the B.A. Degree, and the Southern 
Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, where he received 
the Th.M. and Th.D. Degrees.  He was ordained to preach on May 29, 
1932, by the First Baptist Church of Houston, Texas.  The names of 
the members of the ordaining council are unknown to the author but it 
is to be presumed that his father was on that council as he was 
pastor of the Church at this time.
	Our subject served the Richland Baptist Church, Nashville, 
Tennessee, in 1933-1935.  He served the Macedonia Church from 1935 to 
1937, Bethabara Church from 1935 to 1938; and Sugar Grove Church from 
1935 to 1938.  He was pastor at Leland, Mississippi, in 1938-1942.  
He is now pastor of the First Church of Texarkana, Texas.
	He preached the doctrinal sermon before the Daviess-McLean 
Association in 1936.
	Mrs. Leavell is the former Miss Jean Foxworth, daughter of Mr. 
and Mrs. F. C. Foxworth.  They were married on August 8, 1938.
	Brother Leavell preached the author's ordination sermon on 
March 28.  1937, at the Hall Street Church, Owensboro, Kentucky.  He 
is a good minister of Jesus Christ, loved and respeccted [sic] by a 
host of friends in the Daviess-McLean Baptist Association.
