"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone, Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, p. 466. Used by permission. [Daviess] DEACON SAMUEL D. KENNADY: S. D. Kennady was born in the city of Owensboro, Kentucky, on July 3, 1823. His father, Isaac Kennady, a native of Bullitt County, Kentucky, was for years a merchant in the city of Owensboro, and a brother of Peter Kennady, of whom Collins gives an account in his "History of Kentucky," as being captured by the Indians and kept a prisoner for ten years. He married Miss Lydia Dyson, a native of Bullitt County, in 1821. Our subject was the eldest of their five children. Mr. Kennady received his education here in Owensboro. He was married on November 19, 1846, to Miss Melvina McFarland, daughter Of J. H. McFarland. Seven children blessed this union. From 1856 to 1876 Mr. Kennady engaged in the mercantile business. After the year 1876 he served as President of the Owesboro [sic] and Evansville Telegraph Company. For some time after the year 1878 he engaged also in the insurance business and was the first Chairman of the Board of Trustees before the city of Owensboro was incorporated. For six years he served the city as Mayor and was one of the first Directors of the Owensboro and Russellville Railroad; serving as President one year, and associated with it six years. In the year 1848 Mr. Kennady was converted and was baptized into the fellowship of the First Baptist Church by Rev. Alfred Taylor. He was ordained as a deacon of this Church about the year 1855 and continued to serve in that capacity until his death on June 15, 1907, a period of over fifty years. At his death he was the Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He served as Clerk of the Church from 1858 to l867. In the minutes of the Association he is noted as being a messenger from his Church in that period from 1850 to 1900. In that time he served on the District Mission Board of the Association and in the year 1883 served as the Treasurer of the said Board. His contribution to the work of his Church and the Association is indeed inspiring. He served his generation well.
