JONES was born in Daviess County, Ky., Oct. 7, 1838. He owns a farm of seventy-three acres, nine miles west of Owensboro. Oct. 16, 1863, he married Nancy Riggs, a native of McLean County, Ky., born in 1838. Six children were born to them, but all died in infancy. Mrs. Jones died Dec. 27, 1881. May 9, 1882, Mr. Jones married Eliza Bell Jones, a native of Spencer County, Ky., born in 1850. In October, 1861, he enlisted in Company C, Seventeenth Kentucky Infantry, and served three years. He was in the battles of Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Corinth, Chickamauga, Mission Ridge; was with Sherman on his march to the sea and when he captured Hood and Johnston.
