Used by permission. [Daviess] MRS. ARDENA LEE HOLMES: Mrs. Ardena Lee Holmes, the wife of the late James L. Holmes. was born at Glenville, Daviess County, Kentucky, on March 2, 1894, and is the daughter of S. B. and Maria May Lee. She received a high school education and also attended business school for a time. She was converted in the year 1903 and was baptized into the fellowship of the Utica Baptist Church by Rev. E. B. Farrar. She later moved her membership to the Walnut Street Church in Owensboro with her parents and for some time held membership with the First Church at Henderson, Kentucky, after her marriage. Since about 1923 she has been a member of the First Baptist Church, Owensboro, Kentucky. She has served eight years as President of the Philathea Class, as Secretary of the W. M. S. for four years, and as President of the W. M. S. for eight years in this last mentioned Church. She has also served as the Assistant Superintendent and as the Superintendent of the Associational W. M. U. on one occasion. For some time she taught in the Junior Department of the Sunday School of the First Baptist Church. She became the wife of Mr. James L. Holmes, grandson of Colonel James M. Holmes, on December 30, 1916. One daughter blessed this union, Mrs. Jones Baber. Mrs. Holmes has been a faithful and consecrated worker in all the positions she has held in her Church and in the Association.
