Used by permission. [Daviess] MRS. R. MILLER HOLLAND: The subject of this sketch was born at Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, on December 25, 1887, and is the daughter of Prof. M. L. Pence and Bell Kelly Pence. She attended the Lexington public schools and received the A.B. Degree from the University of Kentucky in the same city. For three years after her graduation from college she taught school. She was converted at the age of eleven and was baptized into the fellowship of the First Baptist Church in Lexington by Rev. Preston Blake. In the year 1911, soon after her marriage, she united with the Third Baptist Church in Owensboro by letter and her membership has been with this Church since that time. She has served as the President of the W. M. S. and has held other offices in this organization. She has also taught the young ladies class, the Fidelis, and the Euzelian classes, at this same Church during the past thirty years. She is the teacher of the last mentioned class at present. For some time she also sang in the choir of the Third Church. At one time she served also as the Young People's Leader in the Associational W. M. U. She was united in marriage to Mr. R. Miller Holland on October 3, 1911. Four children have blessed this union, two are still living. Mrs. Holland has been an outstanding leader among the women of her Church and her Association.
