MATHEW HINDMARCH was born in Durham County, England, Nov. 10, 1846, and when five years of age came to America with his parents. They lived in St. Louis two years and then went to Cannelton, Ind. In 1855 they moved to Caseyville, Ky., where his father died in 1857. In 1864 Mr. Hindmarch enlisted in the Confederate service in the Ninth Kentucky Cavalry, and served till the spring of 1865, when he was captured by the One Hundred and Fifty-third Indiana Infantry. He was a prisoner till the close of the war in 1865, when he was released. He then went to Brandenburg, Ky., and learned the carpenter's trade, and in 1870 came to Daviess County. He was married in 1873 to Mrs. Elizabeth Rosa. They have no children. Mr. Hindmarch is a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church, Owensboro, Ky.
