"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, p. 458. Used by permission. [Daviess] DEACON BENJAMIN W. HAWES: Benjamin W. Hawes, Jr., son of Benjamin W. Hawes, Sr., was born in Daviess County, Kentucky, on October 9, 1845, and was reared on a farm. He followed that occupation during his lifetime. He made a profession of faith in early life and was baptized into the fellowship of the Yelvington Baptist Church. He was ordained a deacon cf [sic] this Church in 1874 and faithfully filled this office until the year 1907 when he became a member of the Maceo Baptist Church. He was one of the first deacons of the Maceo Church and served in that capacity until his death. In the years 1885-1907 he served as the clerk of the Yelvington Church. In the year 1876 he married Miss Hannah Bright, the daughter of George M. Bright of Shelby County, Kentucky. A few months after their marriage his first wife died and in December, 1881, he married her sister, Miss Minnie S. Bright. One son, George Bright, and perhaps other children of whom we are not informed, blessed this second marriage. The son has been the only clerk in the history of the Maceo Baptist Church to date. His death occurred on April 19, 1912, at the age of sixty-six His death meant a great loss to the Maceo Church as he was a liberal giver and faithful member.
