"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, p. 457. Used by permission. [Daviess] DEACON JOHN PHELON FUQUA: This outstanding Church leader and Deacon was born in Daviess County, Kentucky, on July 29, 1858, and was the son of Moses P. and Louisa Phelon Fuqua. His early educational advantages were very few but he became a well informed and capable man in later life. During his lifetime, with the exception of the last few years, he followed the occupation of farming. He was converted at the age of fifteen and was baptized into the fellowship of the South Hampton Baptist Church by Elder W. H. Dawson. This was in November, 1873. In the year 1889 he became a constituent member of the Yellow Creek Baptist Church and was chosen as one of the first Trustees of the Church property. By this same Church he was ordained as a Deacon in April, 1890. He continued to serve in this capacity until his death. He had previously been elected as the Moderator of the Church and held this office likewise until his death. These records are the longest in the history of that Church, a period of forty-four years. In the meantime he served his Church as a messenger to the Association almost annually during that time. He married Miss Elizabeth Potts on February 6, 1879. Two sons and one daughter blessed the home. One son, Phelon died at the age of eight. Malcolm T. Fuqua and Mrs. Sam Riddle are still living. After the death of his first wife Mr. Fuqua married Miss Sallie Finley Thompson on April 12, 1898. She still survives him. Brother Fuqua was one of the most beloved members ever to hold membership with the Yellow Creek Church. He was a model of propriety and the Church sustained a great loss in the death of this great and good man. He lived his religion and died in the blessed hope of a better resurrection. He departed this life on March 11, 1934. Fuqua Phelon Dawson Potts Riddle Finley Thompson = none http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/daviess/fuqua.jp.txt
