JOHN H. CLEMENTS, farmer, one mile west of Knottsville, was born in 
Spencer County, Ky., July 31, 1828, and is a son of Charles O. Clements 
(deceased), a native of Fredericktown, Md., who came to Kentucky when a 
boy.  Our subject came with his parents to this precinct in 1844.  He 
was raised on a farm and educated in a subscription school.  He farmed 
till twenty-four years of age, when he engaged in general merchandising 
in Owensboro for two years.  In 1854 he sold out and came to Knottsville 
and opened a general store, which he ran until 1862, when he sold to 
Robernett.  In 1872 he opened another store in Knottsville, which was 
burned eighteen months later.  Since that time he has attended to 
farming.  He was married March 11, 1855, to Miss Harriet E., daughter of 
Henry Wagoner (deceased).  They have had six children born to them, of 
whom five are living--Charles H., Matilda A., John J., William B. and 
Ida Agnes.  Mr. Clements was Postmaster for Knottsville for eight years. 
 Mrs. Clements was born and reared in Spencer County, Ind.,  near 
Owensboro, and they were married in Owensboro.  She was a Protestant, 
but embraced the Catholic faith a short time prior to their marriage.  
Mr. Clements and family are all Catholics.
