BECKMAN: This brother is a Gospel singer, artist, and minister of the Gospel and was born at Omaha, Nebraska, on September 12, 1890, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Beckman. He was baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist Church in Omaha, Neb., by Rev. B. F. Fellman, in September, 1905, after he had made a profession of faith in Christ as Saviour [sic]. He received a good education in the grade and high schools and then attended and graduated from Illinois College Conservatory and the Moody Bible Institute. For some years before he entered the ministry he was engaged in the profession of that of an Architect, and at odd times now renders valuable service in that profession. Since 1916 he has served in numerous revival meetings as an Evangelistic Singer. In the years 1917-1918 he served as the Assistant to the pastor of the Third Baptist Church, Owensboro, Ky. In the years 1921-1924 he served on the Evangelistic Staff of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention during which time he held meetings all over the Southland. Having been previously licensed to preach by the Third Baptist Church he was duly ordained to the work of the ministry by Elders Sam P. Martin, B. F. Jenkins, John A. Bennett, W. W. Williams, W. C. Boone, R. F. Doll and others, on April 13, 1924. Although the majority of his ministry has been in the Evangelistic field he nevertheless has served the Baptist Churches at Dugger, Olive Branch, Edwardsport, Elliotsville, and others in Indiana: Burton Memorial, Sacramento, and others in Kentucky. During this time he preached the Annual and Doctrinal sermons before Associations, directed music before Baptist State Associations, and spoke in many colleges and high schools. As a singer and choir director he has been eminently successful. His main work being in working with the young people. In this particular field of work he is without a peer. One young man, William Estil Young, who sang in the choir of the Third Baptist Church, later became a Gospel Singer and has labored in the Tabernacle Church, Atlanta, Ga., and in the First Church of Shreveport, La., and others. Brother Beckman married Miss Anna Sue Robertson. They have one daughter, Mary Anne. Mrs. Beckman has been the efficient pianist and organist at the Third Baptist Church for many years.
