HINCHEE, 84 year old resident of the Cave Spring community, is said to be the only Civil War veteran in Crittenden county who fought in the battle of Gettysburg. Mr. Hinchee enlisted in the Union army July 23, 1864 and was mustered out September 16, 1865. Some of the major Civil War engagements in which Mr. Hinchee particated are the battles of Winchester, Gettysburg, Resaca, Ga., Peachtree Creek, Kenesaw Mountain, Siege of Atlanta, Black Swamp, Savanah, Averysboro and Bentonville. Mr. Hinchee was 40 days under fire at the siege of Atlanta; was wounded thru the arm at Resaca; and was wounded during the battle at Winchester and was captured by the Confederates. During three or four months that he was a prisoner he spent part of the time at Lynchburg and part at Belle Island. Mr. Hinchee was born in Logan county in 1844 and moved to this county thirty or thirty-five years ago. He was first married to Miss Martha Chandler, of Columbus, Ind., and later to his present wife, Miss Bessie Silvey, of Hopkins county. Living children of Mr. Hinchee are Mrs. Alice Woodson, of Gazette, Mo.; Mrs. Ida Crisp, of Muskogee, Okla.; James and Leonard Hinchee, of California; Forest Hinchee, of Idaho; the former Miss Cecilia Hinchee, of Idaho; Theodore, Harvey B., Charlie and Thomas Hinchee, all of this county; Mrs. Maude Winders and Mrs. Norval Tabor, of this county.
