The Crittenden Press, Marion, KY 2 Mar 1928. Used with permission. R.C. BROWN, who will be 85 years old July 18, is still very active and hauls spar on every working day. His father, the late James Brown, lived to be 98 years old. When Mr. Brown's parents came to this county from Tennessee in 1851, they settled on the Watson Rice farm near Marion. Since that time Mr. Brown has made his home in this county and now lives in the Freedom community on his father's old place. Mr. Brown is a veteran of the Civil War, having served ten months in the Union army. He served with William Harness, whose picture appeared in the Press several weeks ago. Six of Mr. Brown's seven children are living. They are Mrs. Dan McKinley, of Clay; Mrs. Tom Loving, of Missouri; Mrs. William Short, of Missouri; Dan Brown, of near Sullivan; Ed Brown, Providence; Fred Brown, who lives with his father.
