JOHN W. HOGGINS, a prominent farmer near Eagle Station, Carroll County,
Ky., was born in Gallatin County, December 20, 1827, and is the sixth
of a family of eight children born to William and Mary (McDaniel) Hoggins,
natives of Bourbon County, Ky.  Wm. Hoggins was born about 1797, and was
a son of Solomon Hoggins, a native of Maryland, who came to Kentucky at
an early date, and settled in Bourbon County, where he lived and died.
William Hoggins was brought up on the farm in Bourbon County, was married
there, and moved to Gallatin County in the early part of this century,
where he died, having followed farming all his life very successfully.
Mary (McDaniel) Hoggins was a daughter of Frank McDaniel, an early settler
in Bourbon County.  John W. Hoggins was reared on the farm, and received
a common-school education.  He followed farming in Gallatin County until
1859, when he moved to Carroll County, and in 1867 purchased his
present farm of 146 acres; he built his brick residence in 1871.  His
farm is under good improvements, and he is regarded as a wealthy man.
December 18, 1856, he married Martha J. Baird, daughter of Barzilla and
Mary (Scandrith) Baird, early settlers of Carroll County.  In politics
Mr. Hoggins is a Democrat, and for many years he and his wife have
been active members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and true
and earnest supporters of its principles.  They have no children.
