W. H. TURNER, a native of Flemingsburg, Fleming Co., Ky., was born December
12, 1818, and is the youngest of eight children born to Edward T. and
Lucinda (Rust) Turner, of Virginia.  Edward T. Turner was born in 1885 in
Faquier County, Va., and immigrated to Kentucky in 1801.  He was a farmer
by occupation, served in the war of 1812 under Gen. Harrison, and lived in
Newport many years before his death, which occurred in 1852.  Mrs. Turner
died in 1851.  They were members of the Baptist Church.  W. H. Turner was
reared to farming, which occupation he followed until 1840, when he moved
to Newport.  He was captain and pilot of a ferry boat for several years,
and was elected jailer of Campbell County in 1883, 1885 and 1887 on the
Republican ticket by a large majority.  In 1849 he married Miss Mary
Turner, daughter of Wesley Turner.  She was born in 1828.  Seven children
have been born to them, viz: Emma, Charles E., Harry T., Ellsworth, Nora,
Walter (deceased), Sallie (deceased).  Charles E. was born in 1852, is a
civil engineer by profession, and has been extensively engaged in railroad
surveying.  He and his mother are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
