Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Campbell Co. JUDGE T. P. MAKIBBEN was born in Marlboro County, S. C., July 9, 1849. His parents were M. A. and Mary A. (Herndon) Makibben, the former a native of Mecklenburg, N. Y., and the latter born near Staunton, Va.; they were of Scotch and Welsh descent, respectively. M. A. Makibben was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and died in Barnwell, S. C., January 20, 1887, aged eighty-two years. T. P. Makibben was educated at the Kentucky Wesleyan College, where he received the degrees of A.B. and A.M., and also at Columbia College, New York, where he took the degree of LL.B.; he subsequently took the degree of LL.D. He began the practice of legal profession in Newport, Ky., in 1877, where he has since been actively engaged. He was elected county judge of Campbell County in 1878, was re-elected in 1882, and again elected in 1886, being the present incumbent of that office. In February, 1887, Judge Makibben established the Kentucky Herald, an independent daily and weekly paper published at Newport, which he still owns. October 6, 1874, he married Emma E. Orr, a daughter of Judge John Orr, of Alexandria, Ky. They are the parents of three children: Maria Louise, aged seven years; Edwin Leon, aged five, and Elizabeth Speers, aged three. Judge Makibben is the general agent of Kentucky for the United Life and Accident Association of New York.
