Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 2nd ed., 1885, Butler Co. G. A. HINANT, druggist and grocer, Butler County, is the son of John G. Hinant, a native of Alabama, who removed to Butler County in 1848, and settled first four miles north of Morgantown. He was by profession a teacher, but was prominent in politics, and at different times filled various county offices, as well as a government position at Washington. He died in 1872. His wife was a Miss Elizabeth A. Morand, who was born in Washington City, and died January 5, 1881. There were seven children, as follows: Montezuma Morgan, a saddler and harness-maker, born in the city of Washington, June 9, 1845, but was taken to Butler County, when quite young; Mrs. Mary Catherine Bailey, now deceased; John Maberry, in the ax-handle business; William Haywood, in the same business; G. A. Hinant, Mrs. Sarah J. Burchfield, Rosanna. All the boys but John M., a resident of Bowling Green, are doing business in Woodbury. They are all Democrats in politics. G. A. Hinant was born in Woodbury, January 23, 1858, and brought up in the same place, receiving his education at the public school. He began commercial life as a clerk in J. W. Dixon's grocery, in Woodbury; was subsequently with C. A. Carson in the dry goods trade, and finally became partner with Capt. Sproule, which partnership continued until the Captain's death. In December, 1884, he entered the drug business and is now doing a fair trade.
