Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 2nd ed., 1885, Butler Co. WILLIAM J. FERGUSON, farmer, was born in Butler County, July 7, 1844. His parents were John and Nancy (Hinly) Ferguson; the former a native of Virginia, born in 1796, and removed to Kentucky in 1820; the latter was also a native of Virginia and came to Kentucky in 1828. John Ferguson was married twice; first to Jennie Gray, by whom he had eight children, only three of whom are now living. His second wife was Nancy Hinly, who was the mother of ten children, of whom William is the eldest, and who was married March 9, 1869, to Miss S. J. Atkins, eldest daughter of Luke Atkins. She was born in Eastern Kentucky in 1840. This union has been blessed with three children: Bivian Reed, Maggie, Sada A. Mr. Ferguson is the owner of 100 acres of land near the Barren River, farm buildings, stock, etc. He and his family are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
