SAMUEL SPURLOCK
     I was born in Breathitt County, Kentucky, on October 19, 1816.  My
father was Jesse Spurlock.  He was born in Virginia in 1779.  He came from
Lee County, Virginia, in 1810.  I had only one brother William.  He died
in Breathitt County in 1854, and married Levisa Cope. I do not know our
stock or anything further back on our people.  My mother was Jane Herren. 
She was born in Ireland.  She was a woman grown when she came to America. 
Her brothers came with her.  He was in Breathitt one time but left. I do
not know where he went.  My father had a brother, John, who lived in Clay
County.  He had other brothers in Clay County.
